Eleven years of maternity care, ten years of camera
Fotostudio Klein Geluk is Jorien Broekhuis’s studio. She knows not only how to photograph a baby, but also how to hold one.

From maternity bag to camera
“I’ve seen hundreds of babies in their first week. Every time I thought: someone should capture this.”
Jorien worked for eleven years as a maternity nurse in and around Voorbeeldstad. She bathed babies, helped with feeding and saw parents truly look at their child for the first time. She had been taking photos at home for years. In 2016 she started her own studio, first in the attic, now on the ground floor on Voorbeeldstraat.
You notice it in everything. Jorien is calm, speaks softly and isn’t fazed by a crying baby or a full nappy. Parents often say they get to rest for a moment on the sofa too.
I only take eight newborns a month. That way every baby gets the whole morning, and I have time to edit your photos with care.
Our studio
A room of fifty square metres, bright and warm, with a wide north window and underfloor heating. Along the wall are baskets of swaddles, hats and blankets in soft colours. There’s a changing table, a sofa, a coffee machine and a private toilet. You wheel the pram straight in: no stairs, no step.

Many families come back: first for the bump, then for the newborn and at the first birthday for the cake. Jorien sees them grow, and that’s what she loves most about the job.
