About us

Two engineers
on the shop floor

Lean Lab was founded by two process engineers who would rather stand by the machine than sit in the meeting room. We do it together with your team, not for your team.

Bianca Spanjaard

Process engineer · Black Belt

Worked in the food industry for ten years, most recently as head of production. Can stop a line without anyone getting angry.

Bauke Hazeleger

Process engineer · Black Belt

Started as a work planner in metalworking and later set up warehouses. Checks the numbers on everything, including his own ideas.

From dairy plant to sixty projects

  1. Bianca and Bauke meet on an improvement project at a dairy plant.

  2. Lean Lab starts, with a van, a stopwatch and two clients in metalworking.

  3. First projects in offices: invoices, quotes and a customer service team.

  4. The yellow belt training runs at fifteen companies. Teams keep improving on their own.

  5. More than sixty projects. Still just the two of us, still on the floor.

How we work

Three steps. You can stop after each one. You always keep what we have made.

  1. A1Look

One day of shadowing and measuring, free of charge.

  2. A2Improve

Six weeks with your own team.

  3. B2Sustain

Daily start and board, until it runs without us.

Five fixed habits

  1. Go and see

We decide nothing from behind a desk. Onto the floor first.

  2. Ask why five times

The first answer is rarely the real cause.

  3. Start small

One process, one team. Show that it works.

  4. The team does it

We guide. Your people come up with it and carry it out.

  5. Measure before and after

No gut feeling, but figures. Same measurement in week 1 and week 6.

Shall we come and take a look?

A day on your floor costs you nothing. Just some patience with our questions, and a mug of coffee.
