About Tempo

A small running school in Voorbeeldpark. Three coaches, three groups and one 2.5-kilometre loop.

Maaike ran the 1500 metres herself

Tempo was founded by Maaike Ruitenberg. She ran the 1500 metres on the track for twelve years and found that what she loved most was watching someone else run their first kilometre. We train outdoors in Voorbeeldpark, whatever the weather, and we celebrate every record. Including the first.

After her athletics years she qualified as a Trainer-coach with the Atletiekunie (Dutch athletics federation) and started with five neighbours in the park. Now around eighty people run with us every week. The principle hasn’t changed: you run at your pace, not the group’s.

Three coaches, three groups

Every group has a regular coach. So someone knows how you ran last week.

Where we run

All sessions start and finish at the bandstand. The loop is paved and lit, so it’s good for running in winter too.

From trial run to race number

Four steps, from your first session to the day you pin on a race number.

  1. 1

    Run with us once

Your first session is free. Sign up, come to the bandstand and join the group that suits you.

  2. 2

    Choose your group

Afterwards we read your pace off the stopwatch. Right on the border? Then start in the easier group.

  3. 3

    Your plan

You get a plan for the days you don’t run with us. Short and doable, with rest days built in.

  4. 4

    Reach your goal

Your first 5 km, the 10 or a half marathon. On race day there’s always a coach on the sidelines.

Whatever the weather

We run in the rain, in the cold and in the dark. Only not in thunder or on ice. That’s not bravado: if you keep running in November, you’re stronger on the start line in April.

  1. JanuaryNew starter group, the first weeks still in the dark
  2. AprilStadsloop Voorbeeldstad: 5 and 10 km, with the whole club
  3. SeptemberSecond starter group and the half marathon plan begins
  4. NovemberLights on, hi-vis vests on and just keep running
