Elektra Vonk/Services

Cct 1Services

Four kinds of job I do often and know well. For each job you can read how long it takes, how many hours the power is off and a price guide.

On this page:↓ Replace or extend a fuse box↓ Home EV charger↓ Lighting and switches↓ Faults and inspection

Cct 1

Replace or extend a fuse box

A safe box with enough circuits for induction, a heat pump and an EV charger.

I replace your old box with a new one from ABB or Hager, with an RCBO per circuit where possible. Every circuit gets a label, and a circuit chart hangs in the door. Is your box still fine but full? Then I extend it with an extra circuit or a cooker circuit.

Time for a new box if

  • you still have screw-in fuses
  • there's only one RCD, or none
  • the box is more than 25 years old
  • you want induction, a heat pump or an EV charger
  • a circuit trips regularly

What's included

  • New box from ABB or Hager
  • RCBO per circuit where possible
  • Labels and circuit chart
  • Test report per circuit
  • Old box taken away, everything clean
Cct 2

Home EV charger

A smart EV charger on the wall or drive, with its own circuit.

I fit the charger, run the cable to the fuse box and add its own circuit with the right RCD. Got solar panels? Then I set up the charger to charge on your own power as much as possible.

What I go through with you first

  • where the charger goes: on the wall or a post on the drive
  • how far it is to the fuse box
  • whether you have 1-phase or 3-phase
  • whether you want to charge on your own solar power
  • whether your employer pays for charging

What's included

  • Smart EV charger 11 kW
  • Cable up to 10 metres
  • Own circuit with type A RCD
  • App and charge card set up
  • Explanation at the car
Cct 3

Lighting and switches

Downlights, dimmers that don't buzz and lights you control from your phone.

From a row of spots above the worktop to an outside light with a sensor. I cut the holes, hide the cables and choose dimmers that suit the lamps, so nothing flickers or hums.

What I'm often called for

  • spots in the kitchen or bathroom
  • dimmers that buzz or lights that flicker
  • smart switches without fuss over hubs
  • an outside light with a motion sensor
  • an extra socket where you need it

What's included

  • Dimmable LED spots, warm white
  • Cutting holes and hiding cables
  • Dimmers that suit your lamps
  • Dust cleaned up
  • Explanation of the app
Cct 4

Faults and inspection

A circuit that keeps tripping, or an inspection with a test report.

With a fault I search systematically: circuit by circuit, appliance by appliance, until I find the cause. With an inspection I test your whole installation. The report shows which circuits are fine and where work is still needed.

Typical faults

  • a circuit that keeps tripping
  • the RCD that trips when it rains (often the outside light or garden socket)
  • a socket that gets warm
  • lights that flicker when the washing machine starts
  • an inspection when buying a house

What's included

  • Systematic search, circuit by circuit
  • Explanation of the cause
  • Fixed straight away if possible
  • Test report with an inspection
  • Advice without a sales pitch

What I test in an inspection

  1. Insulation resistance per circuitat least 1 MΩis current leaking away through old or damaged wires
  2. Earth continuitybelow 1 Ωis every socket really earthed
  3. RCD trip timebelow 300 msdoes it trip in time when something goes wrong
  4. Earth electrode resistanceas low as possiblecan fault current flow safely to ground
  5. Polaritylive on the rightis the live in the right place in your sockets

All values go in your test report, per circuit.

FOR YOUR PRICE

Which job is it exactly? A photo says enough.

Here's how to take it. A working day later my price is in your inbox, VAT included.

  1. 1Meter cupboard door open and the light on.
  2. 2The whole box in the picture from the meter down to the bottom circuit.
  3. 3One more close-up so I can read the labels on the switches.
  4. 4One sentence about what you want for example: adding induction, or a charger on the drive.
