About us
Krul & Kleur has two chairs in the centre of Voorbeeldstad. Since 2014 we’ve done colour and curls here, and really nothing else.

Daphne Valk started Krul & Kleur twelve years after her first colour training. She wanted a salon where colour isn’t an afterthought. We asked her why things work the way they do here.
Because practice makes the difference. I’ve been colouring for twelve years, Priya has been cutting curls for eight. A salon that does everything does a lot of things by halves. We stick to four, and we’re strong at those.
Artificial light lies about colour. Under a warm lamp copper looks red and ash blonde looks green. North light comes through our window, and it barely changes from nine to six. That’s where we hold the swatches against your hair.
“Artificial light lies about colour. By the window you see the colour as the street will see it later.”
You won’t notice much difference in the result. Your scalp will: our colour is ammonia-free, stings less and hardly smells. And no animals were tested on. I simply think that matters.
That it’s possible, but not in one afternoon. We spread it over two or three appointments, six weeks apart each time. That keeps your hair strong and you see progress along the way.

How we work
Whether it’s your first balayage or your regular roots: it always goes in these three steps.
Twenty minutes by the window. Your own colour, your wishes and what’s doable are all discussed, with a price and a duration. The advice is free, even if you don’t go ahead.
No rush in the chair. There’s coffee, tea and a good magazine. While the colour develops, you get a scalp massage at the basin.
You’ll hear how to keep the colour looking good: which shampoo, how often to wash and when to come back. We keep your formula, so it’s right again next time.
Come in for twenty minutes of colour advice. Then you’ll see the salon, the window and the colour chart for yourself.
