Frequently asked questions
Something else on your mind? Call Jolien. A strange or small question belongs here too.
When is the best time to come if I’m having chemo?
Ideally before your first treatment. Then we can still see your own hair and calmly get a hairpiece ready. Hair usually starts falling out between day 14 and 21 after the first treatment. Later than that? You’re still welcome, often within 48 hours.
What does my health insurance cover?
In 2026 the basic insurance covers up to €497.50 for a hairpiece for medical hair loss. Supplementary insurance often adds €75 to €500. Every health insurer has a contract with us, and we claim directly.
Do I need an authorisation from my doctor?
You need an authorisation from your doctor, nurse specialist or dermatologist. Have it with you? Then we’ll arrange the rest.
Does the reimbursement count towards my excess?
Yes, the reimbursement from the basic insurance comes under your excess (eigen risico). If your treatment has already used it up this year, you won’t notice a thing.
Can I bring someone?
Please do. A partner, daughter or friend can watch and remember what you might forget. There are two chairs next to the mirror.
Will anyone see me go in?
No. The studio has its own side door, with no shop window. Your car is right by the entrance and there’s never anyone else there.
Do you also come to my home or the hospital?
Yes. We bring a selection of hairpieces and do the fitting at home or on the ward. Within Voorbeeldstad at no extra cost.
How long does a hairpiece last?
A synthetic hairpiece you wear every day lasts six to twelve months. Real hair lasts about two to three years with good care.
