  1. winterJan · Feb

    Pruning while dormant

Fruit trees, espaliers and summer-flowering shrubs we prune now: no leaves, no sap, and you can see exactly which branch has to go. In February your subscription's first visit comes.

    The spring visit

Cutting back perennials, tidying borders, organic feeding and replanting where it's bare. Once the grass grows, we mow for the first time: high, a third off at most.

    Getting the lawn going

Scarifying, moss out, overseeding the bare patches. After that mowing in fixed stripes and edging the lawn straight every visit.

  4. summerJune

    The hedge crisp

After the first growth we cut the hedge along the string line, slightly narrower at the top. First we look for nests. If we find one, that section waits.

15 March – 15 July nesting season: no heavy pruning, look first, nests come first.

  3. Keeping the bordersHoeing, deadheading, trimming back whatever hangs over the path.
  4. Hedge or shrubsIn June and September the hedge along the string line. Otherwise trimming where needed.
  5. Sweeping and clearingPaths and terrace clean, all the green waste in the trailer.

The same face every visit.

“After three visits I know where the crocuses are and which corner is always wet. That saves you explaining and me searching.”

Xander drives his fixed route on Mon and Tue: over seventy gardens in North and East. If he's ill or on holiday, Manon comes, who knows your garden from the notes and the photos.
