Exterior painting
Frames, windows, doors, fascias and the dormer. Outside, paint takes everything the weather throws at it, so preparation counts most.
A frame that looks shabby again after two years is almost never badly painted. It was badly prepared. So first we sand until the paint is sound, rout out wood rot and reseal the joints.
On bare wood we apply the full system: primer, undercoat and topcoat. On wood that is still sound, we sand it down and only add a new topcoat. That way you don't pay for coats you don't need.

The layers on bare wood
- WoodBare and dry: moisture content below 18%.
- PrimerSalmon pink. Soaks into the grain so everything grips.
- UndercoatFills and levels. Then lightly sanded.
- TopcoatColour, gloss and protection from sun and rain.

How long does exterior paintwork last?
Six to eight years on wood, if you have small damage touched up after three years. That's why we come and look after three years.
Do I need to stay home while you paint?
Only on the days we lacquer windows and doors. They have to stay open to dry. We agree that day by day.
And when it rains?
Then we sand and seal under the scaffold, or work indoors. The tins stay shut until it dries up.
