Frequently asked questions
About planning, weather, price, guarantee and owners' associations. Is your question about something else? Call the yard and Fiep will look into it.
Planning and weather
When can you start?
The exterior diary is usually full for a few seasons. Interior work can often start within a month, sooner in winter.
What if it rains?
Then we sand and seal under the scaffold, or we work indoors. We never lacquer wet frames. If the schedule shifts, we call you the same day.
Why don't you paint outside in winter?
Below 7 °C and in high humidity, lacquer dries poorly. Then it doesn't last as long. So from November to March we paint indoors.
How long is the scaffold up?
For a terraced house about two weeks. On a deck-access block we move the scaffold facade by facade.
Price and guarantee
What does exterior painting cost?
For a terraced house with frames front and back we usually charge €3,400 to €5,200, including VAT. After the survey you'll know exactly.
Do I pay less VAT?
Yes. If your home is more than two years old, labour falls under the low VAT rate of 9%. Paint and materials are charged at 21%. The quote splits it out for you.
How many years' guarantee do I get?
5 years on exterior work and 2 years on interior work, under the OnderhoudNL terms. That guarantee stays even if, against all hope, we're no longer around.
Is the survey really free?
Yes. The walk-round and quote cost you nothing, and you decide afterwards.
VvE and maintenance plan
Do you work for small owners' associations?
Yes, from two flats upwards. For a small building the plan often fits on one page.
Can you use our existing MJOP?
Yes. We check it, adjust it where needed and then update it every year.
Will you come to the members' meeting?
Gladly. At the AGM we explain the plan or the quote and answer members' questions.
When the scaffold is up
Do I need to stay home while you paint?
Not for exterior work, except on the days windows and doors are lacquered. They have to stay open to dry.
Who do I call during the work?
The crew's foreman. You get his number at the start. At the office Fiep helps with the planning.
Who clears up the mess?
We do, every day. Empty tins and sandpaper go back to the yard and the pavement gets swept.
Another question?
A call or an email to the yard is enough. Or book a survey straight away and put your question to the site manager.
